Nail Care at Home

Nail care though people may not know is so important. Your hands are what you talk, eat, write, work, create, and care with. Along with your hair it should be up there in your priorities.

Here are some easy tips to take care of your hands and nails in between appointments.

1. Moisturizing-

Lotion- Yes lotion is very important. To keep your hands hydrated to prevent cracking, dryness, and damage to your skin and cuticles. That is a given. I prefer to use any lotion with out any alcohol as one of the ingredients. This will tend to dry out your hands and just make things worse. Try using Shea butter I love this and it keeps my hands moisturized especially in the winter months.

2. Using the Right Tools-

Clippers- When trimming your nails it is always a good idea to use the right clippers for your nails as to not create damage. Also do not clip them too short you do not want to damage your Hyponychium.( http://www.footdoc.ca/Website%20Nail%20Conditions%20(A%20Glossary).htm )

Orange wood sticks, Cuticle pushers- when pushing back your cuticles never push them back to the point that is causes pain. Use clean and sanitized orange wood sticks or pusher that is sold at any beauty supply store.

File- When filing keep nails dry as to not damage or fray them. File from right to left. Never do a "Sawing" method.

3. Cuticles-

Cuticle Oil- Not many people do this. (Cuticles are so important! They protect our nail beds and our fingers from infection, DO NOT CUT THOSE OFF!) Those who do use cuticle oil can tell you that the chance of getting hang nails reduce, the dryness and soreness of cuticles isn't there. It is called Preventative Maintenance, as you would a car take care of the little things before a big problem arises push back your cuticles, maintain and hydrate them. Using cuticle oil will keep them looking healthy and beautiful! Try CND's SOLAR OIL, with Vitamin E it is a great way to make your cuticles happy!
